Athlete code of conduct

This policy applies to any registered athletes participating with the Lake Louise Athlete Development Association (LLADA), the Lake Louise Ski Club (Race), the Lake Louise Grizzlies Ski Club (Grizzlies) and the Lake Louise Freeride Ski Club (Freeride), together, the Lake Louise Ski Club (LLSC).

The LLSC is committed to creating an environment of camaraderie, respect and good behaviour among athletes, coaches and club families. Each party; athlete, coach and parent, plays a key role in the operation of programs. By signing the Code of Conduct below you agree to the LLSCs expectations of each member’s responsibilities and understand that a coordinated team effort is required for the best possible operation of the LLSC programs.

This Code of Conduct underpins the LLSCs commitment to its RISE philosophy, being Respect, Inclusion, Support and Efforts.

I, the athlete, agree to and understand that I must:
  1. Participate and commit to the training and, if applicable, racing or competition plan.
  2. Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate effort, dedication and commitment at training, competitions and races, as applicable.
  3. Respect the decisions of the coaches.
  4. Ensure my safety and the safety of others when taking part in team activities.
  5. Compete and participate in a spirit of fair play and honesty and follow the rules of competition.
  6. Communicate with the coaches on all aspects of the program.
  7. Report injuries or health concerns to my coach immediately, whether incurred on or off snow.
  8. Show courteous and cooperative behaviour to all coaches, parents, volunteers, officials, employees, and guests of all ski areas and other venues during training and competition.
  9. Act in a manner that brings credit to both myself and my team.
  10. Be on time for training, competition and racing events, have my equipment in good order, be properly dressed and ready to ski.
  11. Support all team members regardless of their ability.
  12. Not use profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language.
  13. Use correctly and with respect the ski area’s equipment and facilities.
  14. Not abuse any property owned by the ski areas at which I ski.
  15. Wear team uniforms and insignia when appropriate.
  16. Not consume alcohol, take illegal drugs, abuse the use of prescription drugs, or use any banned, performance-enhancing drugs or supplements.
  17. Respect and honour such other reasonably necessary policies which may be developed and communicated by the club administration or coaching staff from time to time.
  18. Comply with the Freestyle Alberta’s Code of Conduct or Alberta Alpine’s Athlete Code of Conduct and the general Alpine Responsibility Code at any ski area.

Athletes agree to the above responsibilities and understand that the Boards of Directors of the LLSC has developed this code of conduct to promote and protect the team, the ski areas, and the community.

All parties agree that any infringement of this Code of Conduct is grounds for disciplinary action in the form of a suspension period or dismissal for the remainder of the season as detailed below:

  • The LLSC will advise the athlete when there is a problem and state specifically the nature of the problem and which Code of Conduct responsibility has been violated.
  • Up to three warnings (dependent upon age, situation) will be delivered regarding the behaviour.
  • If the problem persists after the warnings, a meeting with the athlete, parent(s), Executive Director, and coach(s) will ensue.
  • A plan will be developed to assist and monitor the party exhibiting the undesired behaviour.
  • Regular progress reports will be made to all parties.
  • Should the undesired behaviour persist, the LLSC has, at its discretion, several options:
    • To suspend further training/competition/racing for that athlete on that day.
    • To impose a longer suspension from the program.
    • To expel the athlete from the program and/or the LLSC.

If an athlete is expelled from the LLSC, program fees are non-refundable.

Parties who wish to discuss or appeal the LLSC’s decision will meet with a committee appointed by the LLSC and/or the Board of Directors.
