Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs ![]() Last Saturday, our Grizzlies athletes took over Grizzly Gully for the annual Grizzly Cup freeride event. The day kicked off with a venue inspection, followed by one run for each athlete to showcase their skills and impress the judges. The athletes didn’t disappoint, swiftly tackling the venue and finding inventive routes through the trees, as well as taking on bumps and jumps with ease. A huge thank you goes out to our volunteers who helped organize the event, crafted the medals, judged, and acted as ski runners. Special thanks to Freeride coaches Liam Morrison for starting the athletes, and Gigi Jacques for announcing and DJ’ing the event. And a big thank you to Bear Street Outfitters in Banff for sponsoring this year’s event and supplying prizes for the podium winners. Here is a recap of the results:
Emily ClarkeGrizzlies Head Coach, Lake Louise Grizzlies Ski Club With comp season coming to a close I want to extend a huge congratulations to all athletes that competed this winter! Our club has had an amazing competition season with many great results! Here are some key take aways from this season that I want to bring to light:
Over my three seasons with the club, it has been so inspiring to watch all athletes learn, progress, and build each other up to the high level of competition that is in Freeride today. We see this every weekend at the Lake, but it has also been especially visible at each competition we have attended as a club. I have lost count of how many times I have been approached by coaches from other clubs who have had nothing but great things to say about our athletes. Athletes, I am so proud of all of you and you should all be proud of what you accomplished this season! Keep on crushing it! Liam GrierHead Competition Coach, Lake Louise Freeride Ski Club This weekend, the U14 team competed at Nakiska in the SG Jay Cup series. After putting in a tremendous amount of work over the past few weeks to prepare for the race and overcoming a challenging training day on Friday due to poor snow conditions, the team truly excelled. All athletes finished in the middle of the pack or higher, with several achieving personal bests and overcoming mental barriers associated with SG. A huge shout out to Holly Inglis and Ryan Orchard for earning their personal best results of the season, and Holly was awarded with the “Most Improved” plaque which showcased her ability to attack the race, regardless of her starting position. Additionally, two athletes had standout performances: Carmen Bullock showed consistent improvement throughout the weekend, securing a win in the final race. Meanwhile, Emilio Hrazdira earned the Jay Cup after three victories over the two days. The club is extremely proud of the U14 athletes for their determination, resilience, and dedication throughout the season. This weekend, every athlete showcased their growth and passion for the sport, both on and off the race course, and we are excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds for the team! Avery LebsackU14 Head Coach, Lake Louise Ski Club Join us this Saturday, March 15 at 3pm in the North Face Bistro All LLSC athletes (Grizzlies, Freeride and Race) will be provided with a voucher to get a hamburger (gluten free buns available) Sunday Freeride athletes are welcome, find Liam M for your voucher Bar will be open Grizzly Cup Awards will take place at 3:30pm Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the season with only 5 weeks left on snow for most of our athletes! This means it's time to check in on where you are at with your volunteer requirements. Please remember it is not just the points that are important but also that you have 1 community and 1 financial commitment. Our amazing volunteer coordinators are doing their best to keep our tracking up to date. This includes indicating when you have finished the community and financial commitments as well as your overall requirement. Please reach out to our volunteer coordinators directly if you have help with something that is not reflected on the tracking sheet. Still looking for something to fulfill your commitment for the season? There are 2 possible options for community points and 2 for financial points. PLEASE BE AWARE THIS IS ALL WE HAVE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON.
