As ski racing and big mountain skiing evolves and we continue to push new limits, athlete safety remains a priority in our programming. We are grateful for the technology available to us that mitigates the many risks of training and competition at all levels of the sport. Helmets, back protectors, and even mouth guards are now standard in alpine and freeride skiing. However, a new piece of protective gear is becoming more widely available and addresses a major risk that seems to be on the rise in the ski world: lacerations from sharp ski edges. Welcome to the chat - Cut-Resistant Apparel. While these garments have been a fixture on the world stage for several years, a rise in accidents closer to home is highlighting the importance of these garments. Our club alone has seen two athletes sustain significant laceration injuries over the past three seasons. This April, a young FIS athlete, Joey Macknish, was critically injured from a ski laceration while racing GS at Alberta Spring Series. Joey has asked clubs across Alberta to share his story, stressing how preventable these types of accidents are, and has partnered with VIX Protection to make cut-resistant layers more accessible to our community. Please take a moment to read Joey’s story below.
We encourage anyone in our LLSCs community to take advantage of the significant discount Vix is offering to Alberta athletes. Please take a moment to look at their website VIX Protection and use the Team Order Formfor pricing info and purchasing. Male, female and youth sizing options are available. Deadline to order is June 30th and families will be sent payment links directly from Vix. Pickup instructions will come from myself once orders are shipped. Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs We would like to once again express our gratitude to Charlie Locke who has graciously provided one 2025-2026 Family Pass to one LLSCs family! The Robertson Family is the lucky recipient of this pass. Nylah and Matthis started their journey with the Club as Grizzlies and now are part of our Freeride programming! Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs Dear Lake Louise Ski Club Members, As I look back on the season, there are many things I would like to highlight from each of our family of clubs. Grizzlies grew by 35% which is a testament to our existing membership, the coaches and of course Emily who set out to build an empire which she labelled “Little people, Big club.” The attention to detail, the communication and compassion for developing young athletes is second to none within this club and is the reason the future of the club is as strong as ever. Freeride has undergone an official name change as we’ve successfully transitioned into Freestyle club. We have invested in the staff’s education and certifications which now allows us to offer a full invert program and will have athletes going inverted in 2025-26. Liam and his team always bring the stoke and watching the athletes grow with the club as it continuously evolves has been a real pleasure. Race along with the help of volunteers up and down the club and within the greater race community successfully hosted world class events and the club’s first NorAm which was well received from the international community. The Juniper race venue came to life after three years of working with the resort with the timing infrastructure which includes the timing barge. Jenn, Phil, Avery and Mara put their heart and soul into your athletes, and we can’t thank them enough. For those of you who are moving on from the club, your ski family at the Lake will last a lifetime, and we wish you all the best and hope to see you on the slopes again sometime soon. Lastly, I would like to thank Steph who works tirelessly for everyone one of you behind the scenes and truly cares about the clubs more than most of you will ever know. As we transition to hiking boots and bike shoes, I’d like to wish you all a wonderful summer knowing that your staff are evaluating the season that was and looking to enhance 2025-26. Have the best summer ever! AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. |
