LLSCs CLUB UPDATES

November RISE Ambassadors

12/10/2024

Picture
The community of the LLSC lives by the RISE principles of Respect, Inclusion, Support, and Effort. These are things that we ask our athletes, coaches and parents to display on daily basis to ensure our community is welcoming, unified and striving for excellence. With sponsorship from Gear Up in Canmore, we are proud to once again acknowledge individuals each month who go above and beyond in upholding RISE. Congratulations to November's RISE Ambassadors

Jacob Holland
Grizzlies
In just a few short weeks on snow Jacob has made huge strides in his skiing. His work ethic and focus is excellent, but more impressive for an athlete his age is his ability to self-assess his skin and ask his coaches questions about how to continue improving. Jacob has also impress coaches with his positive energy and how quickly he has gotten to know his new teammates!

Matt Polz, Grizzlies Plus Coach

Alex Howard
Race
Alex works extremely hard and demonstrates what a good team mate should look like daily. He always ensures that nobody rides the chair lift one their own, and is constantly making sure everyone is included. When walking into the lodge one end of the day I saw him bring one of his team mates bag inside, without being asked because it was a nice thing to do. Additionally, Alex puts in 100% effort into everything he does whether it is technical free skiing or all mountain shredding! Because of all these attributes that Alex is awarded with RISE athlete of the month!

Savina Johnson
Freeride
  • Savina is back this season as a Freeride athlete/Grizzlies coach and participated in our Strength and Conditioning program at CSI this fall. While it was a new environment for her, she showed up happy to start a new physical prep phase with her peers. She took the lead a senior athlete, introducing herself and her friends to new team members, making everyone feel welcome and included. She embraced the gym environment and each session was committed to learning new movements and programming. The work and effort she put in through the fall is noticeable on snow,  and her attitude both in the gym and at the ski hill sets an amazing example for other athletes throughout the club.

Sean Johnston
Parent
We are thrilled to recognize Sean as this month's RISE Parent! Sean has gone above and beyond this offseason, dedicating countless hours to timing projects. His hard work and expertise have been instrumental in repairing and upgrading our timing infrastructure, ensuring we are fully prepared to host everything from DMI events to NorAms this season.    He will also be stepping into new roles this season including Chief of Race for the Lake Louise stop on the U14 Provincial Series.  Thank you Sean, we appreciate everything you do for the club and the Alberta ski racing community.

Mara Bishop
Coach
Mara is our U12 Head Coach, Sisters in Send Co-Head Coach, is an LLSC Alumni, and has displayed incredible effort to create an amazing team environment for all her athletes this season. In addition to her U12 role, Mara stepped up to lead the delivery our field dryland programming this fall, showcasing her dedication to improving physical literacy across our athlete population. She is becoming a driving force in promoting a positive culture around dryland, general physical preparedness, and brings a holistic approach that supports our athletes in setting strong foundations for their long term athletic development both on and off snow!

Friday Night Volunteers - Bonus Points

12/9/2024

Picture
We knew when we were assigned two casinos on the same two days that it would take a village to fill all the required shifts, however we are confident that with over 200 athletes we can meet our obligations!  As of writing this, we only have a small handful of vacant shifts Thursday and Friday mornings at both locations.  The same cannot be said for the Friday

We understand that Saturday is a ski day for many families as such, for any individuals who volunteer their time for the Friday, January 24, 2025, 7 pm or 11 pm shifts we will credit you with 25 financial volunteer points rather than the typical 15.

*** NEW DATES ADDED for the Lake Louise Freeride Comp, see details below. Correct link for FIS NorAm week***
I have been working with the Lake Louise Inn this fall to organize rooms at discounted rates for all the events we are hosting.  This includes the Santa Slalom, the NorAm FIS race, the U14 Provincial Series Race, the Doug Meyers Invitational and our Year End Awards Banquet.

These discounts are available to all our members, not just those involved in the events.  The rates I have secured are lower than rates available at the time of making these arrangements and in most cases are lower than the Season's Pass rate. If you are wanting to extended any of these windows, the Inn will honour our prices for 3 days before and after our event dates.

If you already have booking for the season that overlap with these dates, please contact the Inn directly and they can add them to our bookings and in turn reduce your rate.

All booking links below will expire 2 weeks before the event.  Rates will still be available if rooms are available within that window but you must call the Inn directly.

NEW In-House Merchandise Store

12/4/2024

Picture
Lake Louise Ski Clubs now has its own online store and it is now open for business. The new hats and toques you have seen on our coaches are available for purchase (and would make great Christmas presents). Order pick up will at the resort throughout the ski season.  If our currently colours and styles are not for you, watch the store throughout the season for new options!
As time goes on we will be offering more options in-house, but in the interim if you are looking for hoodies, t-shirts and flannel shirts our Tuxedo store remains open as well.

Respecting the LLSR Rules and other Patrons

12/4/2024

Picture
â–¡ LLSR
With the snow conditions improving and all 210 of our athletes on snow this weekend, and the lodge and the base area getting busier, we would like to take this time to remind everyone of a few things.

The lodge is a shared space, and while we try to coordinate lunches and stagger start times across clubs, it gets very busy in the mornings and mid day. We ask that you please be considerate of others who are looking for a seat and welcome others to sit if you have empty spots at your table while you are waiting for your athletes to join you.  We also ask that our members set a great example by cleaning up your tables when you leave.

The Lake Louise Ski Resort also asks that all bags be stored on bag racks or in your lockers and any any bags left in the lodge end up removed by resort staff.  We know that as racks get full, piles of bags often form. Please be courteous of others space and consider how dropping your bag in the pile effects access to others bags already on the rack, and may get in the way of lane ways and access to the lodge. Please remind your athletes to be courteous and use the facilities the hill provides appropriately, keeping walkways and doors clear.

Let's RISE up and be good patrons of the Lake Louise Ski Resort.

LLSCs Freeride Camp - January 10, 2025

What is Sisters in Send

Sisters in Send (an initiative by the LLSCs) was created because we identified a disparity in the number of female-identifying athletes participating in certain environments, compared to their male-identifying counterparts.

This investment in gender equity combats the factors that contribute to the disparity by providing specialized female-specific training environments. We build progression-oriented, focused, and diverse training camps which create a sense of belonging, and are led exclusively by strong, female-identifying coaches.

Our hope is that this commitment to gender equity will improve access and increase the quality of sport experience for our female-identifying athletes. Over time, Sisters in Send aims to contribute to equality in free-ride, freestyle, and high-level race environments.
