Last spring, the Freestyle, Freeride, and ski communities were devastated with the loss of the high-quality training facility of Vortex. In their short time, Vortex offered our club and community an amazing facility to conduct trampoline training and work on new skills to translate to the slopes. Rex Thomas, the Owner and Head Coach of RT Freeski, took notice and was able to secure a few of the trampolines from Vortex (2 Olympic beds, a 16x16 ft trampoline, and a SuperTramp), and started a new venture named The Spot YYC. This past fall, Rex opened the doors to The Spot with the goal to provide a high-quality training facility that is affordable to clubs, athletes, and the ski community in Calgary and surrounding areas. Our Freeride club has been using the trampolines at The Spot to train since September, and we could not be more appreciative of Rex. With construction now complete on the trampoline section of the facility, Rex has expanded his vision for The Spot and continues to work tirelessly on the indoor rail park, that will hopefully open soon! With all of this in mind, The Spot is aiming to host their Grand Opening this Sunday, November 3rd, at 4 PM. All athletes are welcome to drop-in and check out the new facility for free. Athletes in attendance Require a Freestyle Membership for this event. We have finally heard back from Freestyle Canada and should have our club registration open to purchase your Freestyle Memberships in the next week. If, and only if, you want to attend The Spot YYC's Grand opening, use the link below to purchase your membership.
In other news, our final session of Fall Trampoline has come to a close, and based on feedback from the athletes and parents, the Freeride club has booked 4 more session on November 21st/28th and December 5th/12th. The club is not charging for these sessions, however all athletes attending will be required to purchase either a monthly membership to The Spot for the months of November and December, or an Annual membership to The Spot. By requiring a membership to The Spot for these sessions, we are trying to do our part in keeping The Spot's doors open so that we can continue to have an amazing facility to train at for years to come! One bonus of having a membership to the facility is that athletes will not only have access to trampoline training with our club at no extra charge, but they will also have access to The Spot's drop-in sessions that have a certified Air 2 coach with most sessions having an Air Doubles certified coach as well! An email regarding the timing, memberships to The Spot, and how to register will be circulated to the Freeride families. As a club, let's work together and do our part to keep The Spot open for years to come! Liam MorrisonHead Coach, Lake Louise Freeride Ski Club Comments are closed.
