FIS Chile Camp
LLSC, OZST, KZT and Black Dogs athletes our last day on snow at Corralco.
In August, our FIS team joined forces with the Okanagan Zone Ski Team for the second summer in a row to bring athletes on an international training camp, this time to Corralco Ski Resort in Chile, South America! The 38 hour travel experience Chile and back is a long haul, but the experience and training environment made it all worth it.
Throughout the camp, our athletes made huge gains on snow, training in a new environment, freeskiing unfamiliar terrain and continuing to develop their technical skills on winter snow. They also worked through challenging weather, adjusted to changing plans and made the most of the opportunities available each day.

The camp offered plenty of learning beyond skiing. While international camps are not new to our club, Chile was a new destination and a very different experience from our previous trips to Europe. For some of our athletes, it was also their first time travelling internationally. Together the group experienced a new culture, met new people and developed greater independence along the way. We made new friends, shared plenty of laughs and ate a truly impressive amount of BBQ’ed meat and still are not over Monkey Puzzle Trees!

It is always a pleasure working alongside the Okanagan Zone Ski Team. This collaborative camp brought the OZST and Lake Louise athletes and staff together into one supportive, hard-working group. Everyone trained hard, encouraged one another and made the most of the experience. We are grateful to the OZST athletes and staff for being such a great group to share this camp with.
After navigating plenty of challenging weather, finishing the camp together on a bluebird GS day—with the Lonquimay Volcano in the background—was a pretty special way to wrap things up.

The athletes returned home closer to their teammates and peers on the FIS circuit, as more experienced travellers, great memories, and are excited to get the season started back at home after our last fall dryland block.
