Understanding Volunteer Credits

One of the most important aspects of the LLSCs volunteer program is that families must complete all three parts of the volunteer requirement:

✅ Complete a minimum of one Financial Opportunity per family
✅ Complete a minimum of one Community Building Opportunity per family
✅ Earn the required number of volunteer credits

Volunteer Credit Requirements

Volunteer credit requirements vary by program:

· Grizzlies: 20 volunteer credits per athlete

· Freeride: 20 volunteer credits per athlete

· Race: 35 volunteer credits per athlete

Families with more than two athletes are only required to earn volunteer credits for a maximum of two athletes.

Why Both Categories Matter

A common misconception is that earning the required number of credits automatically fulfills a family's volunteer commitment. This is not the case.

For example, a family could earn all their credits through Financial Opportunities or all their credits through Community Building Opportunities and still not meet the program requirements. To complete your volunteer commitment, you must both earn the required credits and participate in at least one opportunity from each category.

The volunteer program is intentionally structured this way because both types of contributions are essential to the success of the Lake Louise Ski Clubs. Financial Opportunities help generate revenue that supports programming, equipment, events, and athlete development. Community Building Opportunities provide the volunteers needed to deliver races, camps, events, and other club activities that create meaningful experiences for our athletes.

Financial Opportunities

Financial Opportunities help keep programs affordable and support club operations. Examples include:

Casino Shift (15 credits)
Ski Sale Shift (10 credits)
Sponsorship Coordinator (20 credits)
Purchase HUSKI Wear (1 credit per $500 purchased)
Purchase Easter Chocolates (1 credit per $500 purchased/sold)
Connect the club with a sponsor

Community Building Opportunities

Community Building Opportunities are equally important and are at the heart of what makes the LLSCs such a strong and supportive community. Examples include:

Alberta Alpine sanctioned race volunteer shift (10 credits)
Club event volunteer shift, including Grizzly Cup and Voli Cup (5 credits)
Grizzlies Lodge Parent (2 credits per shift)
Banquet Committee (15 credits, plus 5 credits for setup)
Team Travel Coordinator (5 credits per event)
BNet or on-hill equipment organization (3 to 6 credits)

More Than a Requirement

While volunteering is a program requirement, it is also one of the best ways to become connected to the LLSCs community. The Lake Louise Ski Clubs have always relied on parents, athletes, coaches, and volunteers working together to create exceptional experiences for young athletes.

Volunteering provides opportunities to meet other families, build friendships, learn more about how the clubs operate, and contribute directly to the success of club programs and events. For many members, lasting friendships and strong support networks begin through volunteering at races, ski sales, casinos, events, and committees.

The strong sense of community that makes the LLSCs special is built through families investing their time and energy in supporting one another and our athletes.
