LLSCs Annual Survey

2/22/2024

Picture
Dear Lake Louise Ski Club Families,

I hope you're enjoying another exhilarating season on the slopes and with snow on the way this weekend as well as lots of events, let's hope we go out with a bang! As we continually strive to enhance your chidrens' experiences and uphold the values of our RISE program—Respect, Inclusion, Support, and Effort—we invite you to share your insights and feedback through our annual member survey.

Your input is invaluable in helping us celebrate our successes and address any challenges head-on. To foster transparency and direct communication, the survey will not be anonymous. This ensures that we can follow up personally on any concerns, making sure every family is heard and every issue is addressed.

This survey is your opportunity to reflect on the season and let us know what's worked, what hasn't, and how your children have benefited from our programs. Whether it's the professionalism of our coaching staff, the community atmosphere, or how we live up to our motto, "WE LOVE TO SKI, JOIN US!", we're eager to hear from you.

Please, take a moment to complete the survey and help us continue to create a nurturing, challenging, and inclusive environment for our skiers. Your feedback directly influences our strategic direction and helps us maintain our standing as one of Canada’s prime environments for skiing excellence and passion.

Thank you for being a part of our community. Together, we're not just skiing; we're building lifelong skiers and friends!

Cheer or Volunteer!

2/22/2024

Picture
With March madness (many moving parts and events) just around the corner, I wanted to bring your attention to our Cheer or Volunteer concept while attending a race or freeride competitions.

While at an event, we encourage all our parents to attend and show support to our athletes. The best ways do so, is to register as a volunteer or find a good spot to watch from on the hill and cheer. It should be noted that venues are very different, some require a lift ticket to watch, and some may not require volunteers from visiting clubs which leaves you with the cheering option.

Volunteering is a great way to engage with the community, learn best practices of hosting an event, learn about the sport and to be a part of the action. Bonus fact: It typically comes with a free lift ticket and a lunch. If you choose to volunteer, the first step is to ensure you are a registered member of Alberta Alpine for insurance purposes (check out https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/newsfeed/urgent-alberta-alpine-parent-membership for more details). Without your confirmed registration, you will not be allowed inside the fences.

Should you choose to cheer, which is also recommended and required sometimes (no one should volunteer at every race), we ask you to do so from outside the fences and respect the coaches’ roles and responsibilities (https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/roles.html). Have fun at the races, make friends, show your support to the athletes, and as always act with the RISE principles in mind.

URGENT - Alberta Alpine Parent Membership

2/16/2024

Picture
With our Comp/Race seasons underway it has been brought to our attention that it is absolutely essential for ALL parents to register as General Members with Alberta Alpine.  This ensures that each of you are insured to volunteer at both at Lake Louise and other ski resorts.  Going forward, ROCs and event hosts WILL be checking you are a member in good standing before you will be allowed to volunteer at any sanctioned competition or in- house events including Grizzly Cup, Voli Cup and the Doug Meyers Invitational.

This year, there has been a shift from the previous framework of automatically charging membership fees when registering athletes to a per-parent membership model. Unlike the previous Family Membership structure that covered everyone upon registration, the new approach requires individual membership for each parent.

If you're unsure whether you've previously registered for your 2023/24 membership, you can refer to our VOLUNTEER TRACKING SHEET under the 'Parents can volunteer' column. Those who have already registered with Alberta Alpine will have a check mark beside their name.

January RISE Ambassadors

2/14/2024

We're quickly moving through our RISE Ambassador announcements this season and are delighted to acknowledge the following individuals as outstanding RISE examples for our entire membership. We are excited to continue sharing more stories about our club members and how they embody the spirit of RISE both at Lake Louise and in their daily lives!
Picture
Grizzlies: Taylor Stevenson

Taylor is Grizzlies RISE athlete for January, because each day she joins the group she models each of the RISE values. Taylor is a great friend to her teammates always helping them out when needed.  This month Taylor had a tough start on one day and even though she was tired, she overcame this. Taylor kept a positive attitude and worked very hard to put lots of effort into trying new skills all day. Setting this positive example, her teammates also matched her effort that day!

Sonja Polz, Grizzlies Coach, LLGSC
Picture
Race: Logan Scothrone

Logan has joined us for his first year with LLSC as a first year U16 athlete from the east coast and has completely invested in making the most of his year in Alberta! He wants to learn EVERYTHING he can about ski racing and the effort, initiative and maturity that Logan brings to training every day is why we've chosen him from RISE athlete this month. He is such a wonderful part of our U16 team; keeping that atmosphere light and fun and supportive, always asking coaches what else he can do to help, how he can get better all while sharing his love of skiing and the process with this teammates! Congrats Logan, keep up the great work and keep leading by example

Jennifer Clarridge, Athletic Director, LLSCs

All Mountain: Mohan Kalyniuk

Every Sunday, Mohan shows up to practice with a smile on his face, eager to shred no matter the conditions. His enthusiasm for skiing is inspiring, creating an all around positive environment for the entire group. He embodies our RISE motto by demonstrating continuous effort on any drill that comes his way as well as being a supportive and kind teammate at all times. Mohan’s attentiveness has been his superpower this season, setting an excellent example for the club. Keep up the great work Mohan!

Coach: Cam Hay
Grizzlies U10+ Coach Cam is January's RISE coach ambassador. Cam exemplifies RISE to his athletes daily. Working with young athletes, Cam shares his passion and pushes them to be better, while showing them respect and patience. Cam also shows support to his fellow coaches daily by jumping in to help with anything that is needed. We are extremely lucky to have Cam working with our young athletes.

Parent: Anne Frick

Anne is an incredible member of our parent group and her support of coaches and all athletes in the U16 program makes her a stand out parent this month. Anne steps up in many ways;  from helping with athlete transportation to and from races, to giving up her ski day to help take an athlete to ski patrol...she is always thinking of others.  Her respect for our coaches and programming decisions is non-wavering and it is always a pleasure to have her around. Thank you Anne and congratulations on this RISE recognition.

2/3/2024

Picture
Exciting News!  We're thrilled to announce that Ski West and Dave Dagelman are officially our first Whitehorn Level Sponsor for 2024!

Their generous support is making a huge difference for our membership, and empowering our Ski For Life Bursary recipents in our mission to help all athletes maintain access to LLSCs programs.
Picture
Throughout the season, Ski West has been an invaluable partner, not only providing top-notch access to equipment and their dedication to our club and our athletes goes above and beyond, and we're incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

Their commitment to fostering a love for the sport and removing barriers to participation is truly commendable, and we're proud to have them on board as a key sponsor. Together, we're making a positive impact on the lives of young athletes and helping to build a stronger, more inclusive skiing community. Here's to many more seasons of collaboration and success between the LLSCs and Ski West.

Even when she isn't getting somthing right away she continues to push though to improve her skiing.  Hema always shows respect to her follow team mates as well as all the coaches even when Cam's jokes aren't even funny. Great Job Hema! We love having on the team.

Cam Hay, U10 Head Coach, LLGSC

Race: Zachary Osbourne
Zach continues to exemplify what it means to be RISE every day we’re on snow. When Zach comes to the hill, he always puts effort into training in the morning and pushes his comfort zone in our afternoon freeskiing. He supports his teammates, congratulating them on their wins and being there for them when they're low. Zach has been a rockstar, including his teammates when going up the chair, getting to know our new team members, and especially including Coach Jack Campbell in our crew. He has been tremendously respectful towards his coaches, always saying thank you and ensuring we have someone to ride up with. Zach is an incredible kid, always kind and ready to have the best day every day!

Parent: Carla Ogryzlo

Carla  has gone above and beyond her role of comp coordinator for both KH comp and Red comp. She has also helped myself and Liam Grier plan for these events quite a bit. On top of this, on the weekends I often see her skiing with new and alumni parents of the club to help include everyone and build our community.
