2025 Doug Meyers Invitational a Huge Success! The 2025 Doug Meyers Invitational, held on April 5 & 6, was an unforgettable celebration of young ski talent and community spirit. Saturday saw our U6 and U8 athletes take over the race venue, impressing fans with their fearless skiing and growing skills. Meanwhile, the U10 and U12 competitors put on a show in the moguls, obstacle course, speed trap, and long jump—demonstrating incredible versatility and energy across all challenges. Sunday brought a venue swap, and the excitement continued. The U10 and U12 athletes raced with intensity and precision, delivering tight times and thrilling performances. Not to be outdone, the U6 and U8 athletes showed everyone that size doesn’t limit speed or airtime—proving that heart and talent come in small packages. A huge thank you goes out to Lake Louise Ski Resort for their incredible support, providing multiple venues across the mountain and making an event of this scale possible. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the ROC for their tireless organization, and to all the volunteers whose hard work and dedication made this weekend run smoothly. Your teamwork and passion brought the DMI to life—thank you! We can't wait to see everyone again next year! Emily ClarkeGrizzlies Head Coach We should all be proud of what happened at the Lake from Jan 27-30, 2025. While the NorAm circuit isn't new to Lake Louise, this was the first time the resort hosted a tech series and the first time our club hosted a race of this caliber. This series is the stepping stone to World Cup, and you rarely make it to the white circus without winning at this level. The Lake Louise Ski Club and the Banff Alpine Racers co-hosted the SL and GS series, with Norquay acting as the home for the slaloms on their watered surface and the Lake hosting GS on our World Cup hill we all know as Men's. The list of thank yous is endless, but it all started with the Resort's love for ski racing, followed by the confidence of Alberta Alpine in our ROC and the newly appointed Grizz crew for coming together and setting the stage for what was a world class race series. Coaches from around the World and North America were blown away by the quality of the series and wish for this to become a staple of the NorAm calendar. Many club alumni, along with volunteers from all over Western Canada made the trek out for the week to support our sport, most of which did not have any athletes of their own competing but have dedicated a big part of their lives to it. It was a great reminder of the deep connections we make through alpine skiing. Kiki Alexander, who many of you know after her rehab stint with the club last season and Liam Wallace, Sunshine Alumni, both grew up racing in the Bow Valley had very strong showings with Liam winning both GS races, and Kiki with a gold and bronze in the SL. Both were kind enough to share the following with me when asked "How was your experience at the Bow Valley NorAm series and how important was this series for you?"

Having the opportunity for our athletes to understand what level they are trying to achieve and giving them to ability to measure themselves against the provinces best, is unique, and super fun. The event was successful for most, but we do have to wish AST member and LLSC's Caleb Brooks a speedy recovery as he did injure himself while inspiring our up and comers. Gavin PreziosiExecutive Director, Lake Louise Ski Clubs With March madness (many moving parts and events) just around the corner, I wanted to bring your attention to our Cheer or Volunteer concept while attending a race or freeride competitions. While at an event, we encourage all our parents to attend and show support to our athletes. The best ways do so, is to register as a volunteer or find a good spot to watch from on the hill and cheer. It should be noted that venues are very different, some require a lift ticket to watch, and some may not require volunteers from visiting clubs which leaves you with the cheering option. Volunteering is a great way to engage with the community, learn best practices of hosting an event, learn about the sport and to be a part of the action. Bonus fact: It typically comes with a free lift ticket and a lunch. If you choose to volunteer, the first step is to ensure you are a registered member of Alberta Alpine for insurance purposes (check out https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/newsfeed/urgent-alberta-alpine-parent-membership for more details). Without your confirmed registration, you will not be allowed inside the fences. Should you choose to cheer, which is also recommended and required sometimes (no one should volunteer at every race), we ask you to do so from outside the fences and respect the coaches’ roles and responsibilities (https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/roles.html). Have fun at the races, make friends, show your support to the athletes, and as always act with the RISE principles in mind. Gavin PreziosiExecutive Director, Lake Louise Ski Clubs Congratulations to the following athletes; Waverly Balfour, Emilio Hrazdira, Tyler McKay, Matthew Ellis, and Tegan Anderson (alternate), who have qualified to compete at Alberta Winter Games February 16th - 19th 2024! This years games are the make up games for the 2022 season when they were cancelled due to Covid. The Top U14s from all over Alberta will be meeting in Grand Prairie to compete in their respective disciplines. Alberta Alpine hosted a South Zone qualifying event at Norquay on January 6th and 7th that selected athletes out of each zone to compete in the AWG Alpine Skiing competition. All our LLSC athletes represented us well and out of the 10 athletes + 2 alternates per zone selected for the AWGs we are proud that our five LLSC athletes made this criteria! Good luck in Grand Prairie. Ski fast, have fun and we will be cheering you on! Curtis RousseauU14 Head Coach, Lake Louise Ski Club |
