LLSCs CLUB UPDATES

All Athletes On Snow This Weekend

11/30/2023

Picture
I wanted to take the time to welcome all of our one day program athletes to the 2023:24 ski season. We are very excited about the staff we have in place for your athletes this year as they promise to bring an excellent mix of experience and youthful excitement. We all love to ski and look forward to sharing our passion with you.

If you are a new parent to the club, I encourage you to meet some of your peers when dropping your athletes off in the morning and going for a ski yourselves. All of the groomed runs are in great shape and with more terrain opening daily , there is a variety of early season options all over the mountain. Some ski days will be organized by your board members and head coaches once we all get into the swing of things.

At the end of your day, our goal as a staff is to send everyone home with a smile on their faces after learning some new skills and looking forward to the next day on the mountain together.

Think snow and have a great weekend!

Picture
The LLSCs is committed to being leaders through the Canadian ski community by promoting Safe Sport practices and education among our membership and staff. We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new Safe Sport page. Positioned prominently in the top menu of our homepage, this dedicated space will offer the latest in Safe Sport resources, education, training details, and essential contacts.

Do you know what Safe Sport is? Have you taken the Safe Sport training? Do you know how to report suspected maltreatment? Our aim is to empower our community—athletes, coaches, staff, and members—to actively engage in creating the safest possible environment for our athletes to thrive.

Take a look at the video below from Basketball Canada for a better understand of how everyone plays a role. Safe Sport is everyone's responsibility and with your support and involvement we can ensuring a secure and supportive space for all.

Volunteering for the 2023:2024 Season

11/22/2023

Picture
We are so excited that ski season is finally here!  We wanted to send out a note to capture the volunteer commitment information all in one place! Your role as a parent in the club is critical to the success of all of our athletes, and to help make sure we have volunteer support, all athletes have a volunteer points commitment. You can choose to pay the volunteer bond instead, but honestly volunteering is fun, and a great way to get to know other ski families!
Volunteer Bond or Credit Commitment Per Club
Picture

A family is required to collect points (or pay the fees) for up to two athletes (e.g.,  if a family has three athletes, they will be required to volunteer/pay the bond for two athletes).  Members should volunteer for at least one financial opportunity and one community building opportunity.  This is a minimum of 1 point in each opportunity category.  This year, because many of the financial opportunities occurred before the season even started, as such you only need a minimum of 1 financial point (bringing in one sponsor can get you that point!).

Throughout the year, volunteer time will be tracked in the VOLUNTEER CREDIT TRACING SPREADSHEET. Please check your volunteer points throughout the season, and if you think something has been missed, please email [email protected] for assistance.  There is usually a time lag getting hours in the system. Currently we do not have the volunteer list from the Calgary New and Used Ski Sale reflected. This year, as families hit their total, we will be removing the bond payment in RAMP and we will stop tracking actively tracking your points.

SO if you are thinking... "how on earth am I going to hit this total?"... have no fear! Below is a list of common opportunities. As other opportunities come up, emails requests will generally be sent out, and an appropriate point value allocated. If you volunteer for something, and aren't sure it's been captured just send us an email at [email protected]!

Level 1 Officials Course

Picture
Join Dave Howard, National TD and Chief of Race at various LLSC events, on either December 9th or 10th, from 9:10am to 12:30pm for our exclusive in-house Level 1 Officials Course. We'll start with an indoor presentation at 9:10am in the timing shack, followed by practical training on snow on the club's many training venues. This session covers a variety of safety protocols and you'll be able to see how environments are set up.  This course is a requirement for volunteering at any race and is a chance to learn about roles and responsibilities ROCs require to host successful events.

New Provincial Competition Rules & Policies

11/10/2023

Picture
With the season just one day away, I'd like to share with you of some AASA policy changes for the season. Some of these will affect your athlete and others may affect you as parents/volunteers. It is a good document and I suggest you all have a read through it as there is plenty of good information in there that touches on all aspects of our sport of ski racing here in Alberta.  As a club we will be following all of these rules and policies while hosting club events and on all our training venues.

DRUG FREE SPORT:
All members will abstain from participating in AASA sanctioned events while under the influence of alcohol, tobacco products, cannabis, illegal drugs, or prescription drugs when such prescription drugs might impact the member’s performance and potentially risk the health and safety of the member and other participants attending the AASA event; this includes within the competition area, spectating areas, awards ceremonies, and offices associated with AASA events. "under the influence" here is defined as zero consumption.

Other notable changes:
Cold Weather Policy
Alberta Alpine Race Levy
Start Order for U12, U14 and U16
No more hiking in SL
Fluorinated wax ban
many more

Please see the full document attached below.  I look forward to seeing you all very soon!
