We are hosting a U16 Super-G event on Men’s Downhill February 27-28. This will be a super fun 2 days speed event filled with excitement. To make this event happen, we need a lot of volunteers! Both during the event and for set up. You guys get first pick!! We will be circulating the sign-up to other participating clubs this Friday, February 2. We understand that this race runs on a Tuesday and Wednesday and not everyone will be able to make it. For this race, we encourage everyone of you to step out of their comfort zone and maybe try something new. We have lots of positions to fill at the start, the finish, on course, before or after the race. If you have any questions about any of the roles or responsibilities, please contact Genevieve Giroux (Chief of Race) or Anne Frick (Chief of Volunteers). Unable to help during the week? We need help with set up the 2 weekends before the race itself. Please have a look at the signup below for both set up and race day options. Anne FrickChief of Volunteers, U16 SG Race Congratulations to the following athletes; Waverly Balfour, Emilio Hrazdira, Tyler McKay, Matthew Ellis, and Tegan Anderson (alternate), who have qualified to compete at Alberta Winter Games February 16th - 19th 2024! This years games are the make up games for the 2022 season when they were cancelled due to Covid. The Top U14s from all over Alberta will be meeting in Grand Prairie to compete in their respective disciplines. Alberta Alpine hosted a South Zone qualifying event at Norquay on January 6th and 7th that selected athletes out of each zone to compete in the AWG Alpine Skiing competition. All our LLSC athletes represented us well and out of the 10 athletes + 2 alternates per zone selected for the AWGs we are proud that our five LLSC athletes made this criteria! Good luck in Grand Prairie. Ski fast, have fun and we will be cheering you on! Curtis RousseauU14 Head Coach, Lake Louise Ski Club The Lake Louise All Mountain Club wrapped up their first National 3* IFSA event of the season, overcoming cold temperatures and weather delays over January 11th - 14th. The U12, U15, and U19 athletes all delivered exceptional performances over the weekend. In the U12 category, both boys and girls demonstrated impressive skiing skills despite the challenging weather conditions. Special acknowledgment goes to Dahlia Guest for securing 4th place in only her second IFSA competition. Due to cold weather, Sunday saw the U15 and U19 male and female categories run concurrently, bringing together a total of 150 athletes on the same venue. Our athletes displayed huge improvements over past seasons which showed in their skiing and final results. Congratulations to Gabby Ogryzlo for finishing 5th in her first season of U19 women, Hannah Lang for achieving her first-ever podium and securing 4th place in U15 Female, and Charlie Fryer for his first podium a 4th place finish. Huge shout out to Gavin Sheppard for a massive performance and a near-save just above the finish corral. You can see Gavin go BIG in the video below! Our athletes' dedication and hard work is evident and we are proud of everyone that showed up and braved the cold to compete. We are so excited to continue our comp season and look forward to more great things from our All Mountain athletes! Jennifer ClarridgeAthletic Director, Lake Louise Ski Clubs Mark your calendars - we will be hosting our Annual Year End Banquet Saturday, April 27, in the Lodge of Ten Peaks again this year. More details to come…. Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs Final day to register for the first camp of the season is January 8. There are still a few spots available. All the camp details and registration link can be found on our club newsfeed here. Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs Lake Louise Ski Clubs is once again excited to be partnering with Lisa Paulson, IFMAG Mountain Guide, CAA Professional Member, Parks Canada Avalanche Forecaster, & Visitor Safety Specialist. For more information about Lisa’s impressive experience, have a look at our website. As a Club we feel all members should have an introduction to Snow Safety. All our athletes, including our Grizzlies, are introduced in an age-appropriate manner during their day-to-day training. For our athletes 12 and up, Lisa is offering a Youth Avalanche Safety course where the focus is learning on how to stay safe within the ski resort boundaries. This will be on Saturday, January 13. This course is sponsored by Avalanche Canada so is free of charge, however registration in RAMP is still required. Lisa will be offering an AST 1 Plus course for members 14 years and older – yes that includes you parents. Based on the survey we circulated in the fall Lisa has slightly modified the course format – the classroom portion will be offered via 2 Zoom sessions, both 1.5 hours followed by one in person session in the timing shack. The classroom sessions will be followed by 2 field days. This allows Lisa to cover companion rescues in more depth as well as go for a short tour. This is particularly valuable for our athletes participating in our Blanket Hut Trip as it will give them a change to test their equipment before the trip. Dates are as follows for the AST 1 Plus
Registration for both courses is open now. The link is provided below. Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs With 2024 already here, I'd like to remind you all of how far you've come since your first day on snow this season. Many of you are entering the competitive phase of the season and feel it's important for you to recognize that you are ready and remember that this is a big reason why you put in all the work. All of your teammates will have varying goals and expectations this time of year and while this is an individual sport, you wouldn't be where you are without your teammates. Now is the time to embrace the values that RISE teaches us and be there to Support your teammates, be there to pick them up if needed and celebrate all the wins, regardless of their magnitude.
