Dear Lake Louise Ski Club Families, I hope you're enjoying another exhilarating season on the slopes and with snow on the way this weekend as well as lots of events, let's hope we go out with a bang! As we continually strive to enhance your chidrens' experiences and uphold the values of our RISE program—Respect, Inclusion, Support, and Effort—we invite you to share your insights and feedback through our annual member survey. Your input is invaluable in helping us celebrate our successes and address any challenges head-on. To foster transparency and direct communication, the survey will not be anonymous. This ensures that we can follow up personally on any concerns, making sure every family is heard and every issue is addressed. This survey is your opportunity to reflect on the season and let us know what's worked, what hasn't, and how your children have benefited from our programs. Whether it's the professionalism of our coaching staff, the community atmosphere, or how we live up to our motto, "WE LOVE TO SKI, JOIN US!", we're eager to hear from you. Please, take a moment to complete the survey and help us continue to create a nurturing, challenging, and inclusive environment for our skiers. Your feedback directly influences our strategic direction and helps us maintain our standing as one of Canada’s prime environments for skiing excellence and passion. Thank you for being a part of our community. Together, we're not just skiing; we're building lifelong skiers and friends! Stavros KarlosPresident, Lake Louise Ski Clubs With March madness (many moving parts and events) just around the corner, I wanted to bring your attention to our Cheer or Volunteer concept while attending a race or freeride competitions. While at an event, we encourage all our parents to attend and show support to our athletes. The best ways do so, is to register as a volunteer or find a good spot to watch from on the hill and cheer. It should be noted that venues are very different, some require a lift ticket to watch, and some may not require volunteers from visiting clubs which leaves you with the cheering option. Volunteering is a great way to engage with the community, learn best practices of hosting an event, learn about the sport and to be a part of the action. Bonus fact: It typically comes with a free lift ticket and a lunch. If you choose to volunteer, the first step is to ensure you are a registered member of Alberta Alpine for insurance purposes (check out https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/newsfeed/urgent-alberta-alpine-parent-membership for more details). Without your confirmed registration, you will not be allowed inside the fences. Should you choose to cheer, which is also recommended and required sometimes (no one should volunteer at every race), we ask you to do so from outside the fences and respect the coaches’ roles and responsibilities (https://www.lakelouiseskiclubs.ca/roles.html). Have fun at the races, make friends, show your support to the athletes, and as always act with the RISE principles in mind. Gavin PreziosiExecutive Director, Lake Louise Ski Clubs The Lake Louise Ski Clubs is proud to share the first year FIS athlete Kael Johnston has qualified as one of four athletes to represent Canada in Ski Cross at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon South Korea. “The ski cross athletes were selected based on their performances and ranking during a selection camp and competition in Nakiska, Alberta earlier in December. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are the world’s largest multi-sport event for high-performance young athletes aged 15 – 18. Gangwon 2024 will begin on January 19 and will end on February 1, 2024, and will feature 1900 athletes. Gangwon 2024 will be the fourth edition of the Winter YOG and the first in Asia. It will have a fully gender-balanced sporting program, and will feature seven sports, 15 disciplines, and a total of 81 events.” The Ski cross will take place January 23 and 24 (Days 4 and 5) at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort! Congratulations Kael! Named as alternates to the Canadian YOG roster are fellow LLSC FIS athletes Thomas Cais and Abby Garnsey! You can read the full press release from Alpine Canada here! Stephanie JohnstonMember Services, Lake Louise Ski Clubs LLAMSC is happy to announce that we are going back to the Blanket Glacier Ski Hut with CAPOW guiding this April. The trip will take place April 17th-21st, 2024. The total cost of the trip is $2550, and that includes the helicopter ride in and out of the EHframe, 5-star meals cooked by their amazing chefs, and beautiful ski touring and avalanche safety learning opportunities guided by the world-renowned CAPOW guides. The athletes and parents that came along last April had an absolute blast skiing pow, building backcountry booters, popping pillows, and learning about the interior BC snowpack. The guides Lisa, Seb, and Aaron showed us an amazing time and we have all been dreaming of going back since. Please keep in mind that the athletes who attend must have their AST 1 and be older then 14 years old. Registration is up to the coach’s discretion, and seats are reserved for the Lake Louise All Mountain Ski Club. If you are interested, please contact liam.m@lakelouiseskiclubs.ca. Liam MorrisonHead Coach, LLAMSC, LLSCs I wanted to take the time to welcome all of our one day program athletes to the 2023:24 ski season. We are very excited about the staff we have in place for your athletes this year as they promise to bring an excellent mix of experience and youthful excitement. We all love to ski and look forward to sharing our passion with you. If you are a new parent to the club, I encourage you to meet some of your peers when dropping your athletes off in the morning and going for a ski yourselves. All of the groomed runs are in great shape and with more terrain opening daily , there is a variety of early season options all over the mountain. Some ski days will be organized by your board members and head coaches once we all get into the swing of things. At the end of your day, our goal as a staff is to send everyone home with a smile on their faces after learning some new skills and looking forward to the next day on the mountain together. Think snow and have a great weekend! Gavin PreziosiExecutive Director, Lake Louise Ski Clubs The LLSCs is committed to being leaders through the Canadian ski community by promoting Safe Sport practices and education among our membership and staff. We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new Safe Sport page. Positioned prominently in the top menu of our homepage, this dedicated space will offer the latest in Safe Sport resources, education, training details, and essential contacts. Do you know what Safe Sport is? Have you taken the Safe Sport training? Do you know how to report suspected maltreatment? Our aim is to empower our community—athletes, coaches, staff, and members—to actively engage in creating the safest possible environment for our athletes to thrive. Take a look at the video below from Basketball Canada for a better understand of how everyone plays a role. Safe Sport is everyone's responsibility and with your support and involvement we can ensuring a secure and supportive space for all. Emily ClarkeGrizzlies Head Coach & Safe Sport Committee Co-Chair We are so excited that ski season is finally here! We wanted to send out a note to capture the volunteer commitment information all in one place! Your role as a parent in the club is critical to the success of all of our athletes, and to help make sure we have volunteer support, all athletes have a volunteer points commitment. You can choose to pay the volunteer bond instead, but honestly volunteering is fun, and a great way to get to know other ski families! A family is required to collect points (or pay the fees) for up to two athletes (e.g., if a family has three athletes, they will be required to volunteer/pay the bond for two athletes). Members should volunteer for at least one financial opportunity and one community building opportunity. This is a minimum of 1 point in each opportunity category. This year, because many of the financial opportunities occurred before the season even started, as such you only need a minimum of 1 financial point (bringing in one sponsor can get you that point!). Throughout the year, volunteer time will be tracked in the VOLUNTEER CREDIT TRACING SPREADSHEET. Please check your volunteer points throughout the season, and if you think something has been missed, please email volunteer@lakelouiseskiclubs.ca for assistance. There is usually a time lag getting hours in the system. Currently we do not have the volunteer list from the Calgary New and Used Ski Sale reflected. This year, as families hit their total, we will be removing the bond payment in RAMP and we will stop tracking actively tracking your points. SO if you are thinking... "how on earth am I going to hit this total?"... have no fear! Below is a list of common opportunities. As other opportunities come up, emails requests will generally be sent out, and an appropriate point value allocated. If you volunteer for something, and aren't sure it's been captured just send us an email at volunteer@lakelouiseskiclubs.ca! Sheena Johnson & Mandy LongVolunteer Coordinators, Lake Louise Ski Clubs |
